Sam is on the edge, but an unusual party shows there could be more to living...

THE PLAY:

UNEARTHED is a vibrant new play written by Stephanie Dale, directed by Penny Levick, with costumes by students from Arts University Bournemouth. Our play officer is Ruth Hayes. The project is being documented, photographed by Jayne Jackson and produced by Stephanie Dale, Lighthouse, Poole and Dorchester Arts.

The play follows Sam, a young person whose encounters with 11 remarkable Dorset women - each with their own life stories of resilience and triumph - profoundly changes both Sam’s outlook and the lives of the women themselves. There will also be a COMMUNITY CHORUS of women who will play historical women of Dorset, and will sing and create the world of the play. (There is no audition for the COMMUNITY CHORUS, all ages and abilities are welcome. If you are under 16, you will need a parent or guardian to accompany you.)

AUDITION DATES:

SUN 8 FEB: 3.30- 5.30 LIGHTHOUSE, POOLE

MON 9 FEB: 6.30 - 9.30 DORCHESTER ARTS

WED 11 FEB: 2-5 & 6.30 - 9.30 DORCHESTER ARTS

AUDITIONS:

We will be auditioning women from the community to play the 12 central characters - three of which are substantial roles - rehearsals will take place in Poole and Dorchester, the play is written in a way that this will be possible. The last 2 weeks of rehearsals will involve full runs of the show and you will need to be able to travel to both locations - we will help with organising car-sharing

You do not need to prepare anything for the auditions, these will take place in a workshop format, where you will be asked to improvise, sing and read a section of the play.

Rehearsals for actors and community chorus will begin at the end of May, taking place at weekends and evenings. A full rehearsal schedule will be available at the beginning of April, following a discussion about the casts availability.

COMMUNITY CHORUS:

If you would like to be part of the COMMUNITY CHORUS, you can come to the play reading and workshop.

The COMMUNITY CHORUS will be made up of women of all ages and abilities from across the county, who have a desire to have fun, make new friends and learn new theatrical skills.
