In March 2025, we:
-
Worked with 14 volunteer researchers at Dorset History Centre to explore the lives of women from across time.
-
Held a launch event at Dorchester Arts, where over 70 women came and discovered more about the project, listened to an inspiring a talk from Anya Pearson from Visible Women, learned new dances led by Angela Laycock and listened to acapella group Bread and Roses
-
Ran workshops across the county, attended by over 100 women, at
-
Poole Lighthouse, Dorchester Arts, Shaftesbury Arts, Weymouth College and Lyric Theatre, Bridport. The workshops were a chance for women to tell us about the incredible women in their lives, and towns, and to have their say about the content of the play.
Phase One was funded by The Maria Bjornson Memorial Fund.

Dorchester Arts - programmes about 100 events a year and aims to appeal to everyone. The artists range from theatre and dance companies to bands old and new, as well as comedians, children’s entertainers, jugglers and even the odd mind-reader. Their shows take place mainly in their home venue, Dorchester Corn Exchange, but also outdoors in Maumbury Rings or in one of the many beautiful churches, barns or event venues in and around Dorchester.
Poole Lighthouse - boasts a year-round programme of national and international events including dance, music, drama, comedy, film, visual arts, workshops and family theatre. It is the largest regional arts centre in the UK and home to the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
Lyric Theatre, Bridport - is a hotbed of artistic experimentation, offering performing artists a creation space with opportunities to take risks, make and show work, and for the local community to get involved with high quality participation. It has built a reputation as a space that encourages and presents innovative and experimental work.
Shaftesbury Arts Centre - hosts a regular, varied and lively year-round programme of amateur and professional plays, films, art, photography and craft exhibitions, workshops, and training courses drawing people from far and wide including Wiltshire and Somerset. It is also increasingly taking the arts out into the community.
Bay Theatre at Weymouth College is open to the public and functions as a venue for touring theatre, dance and music companies. Plays are also regularly staged by performing arts and music students.
